1. Inventions: Monopoly was invented by Elizabeth Magie in 1933. Kit Kat bars were invented by Henry Isaac Rowntree in 1935. FM Radio was invented by Edwin Howard Armstrong in 1933. Chocolate Chip cookies were invented by Ruth Wakefield in 1939. Twinkies were invented by John A. Eichbauer in 1933. The first Jeep was invented by Batnam Car Company in 1940. The first computer controlled by software was invented by Tom Kilbur in 1945. Slinkies were invented by Richard James in 1943. Silly putty invented by James Wright in 1943. The atomic bomb made by many scientists in 1945. Drive-in movie theaters were invented by Richard M. Hollingshead in 1933. Radar was invented by Robert Watson-Watt in 1934. Jet engines were invented by Hans von Ohain and Frank Whittle in 1937. Tape recorders were invented by Joseph Begun in 1934.
2. Sports: Soccer was popular even during the War in Germany. The Third Reich founded for many soccer clubs and players. Baseball in The U.S. plumeted during the 1930's due to the great depression but steadaly rose in the 1940's. Some of the really good baseball players from this time would be in the 1930's include Lou Gehrig, Hack Wilson of the Cubs, and Carl Hubbell of the Giants. The best in the 1940's were Joe DiMaggio, Bob Feller, and Ted Williams. Football during the 1930's and 1940's was worse than baseball, there was a huge shortage of men because of the war, and caused many retired players to come back and play. 21 members of the NFL were killed during the war. The Olympics was also held in Berlin in 1936.
3. People: During the early 1930's many people were poor and and unhappy from the depression, and their family members being drafted into the military. Some famous people during this time were Bing Crosby, Joe DiMaggio, Albert Einstein, Dwight D. Eisenhower, Franklin Delano Roosevelt, Jackie Robinson, Norman Rockwell Eleanor Roosevelt, and more.
4. Movies: Disney's Snow White and The Seven Dwarves was released in 1937. The Little Princess was released in 1939. The Wizard of Oz was released in 1939. Edge of Darkness in 1943. The Story of GI Joe released in 1945. People could either watch these at home on there tv. or go to a drive in movie theater.
5. Music: Now that FM radio was invented the radio became the main source of music. A new form on music called "Swing" music is now popular. Some popular musicians were Frank Sinatra, Tia Flowers, Bing Crosby, Benny Goodman, Billie Holiday, and Glen Miller. Some popular instruments were the piano, trumpet, saxophone, clarinet, and singers.
6: Family: During the war many families were divided between being for the war and being against it. If you were and immigrant and had family members in Europe it waould be espically had for you to be drafted to go fight aginst them and to see your homeland being bombed and destroyed.
7. Politics: During the 1930's Franklin Delano Roosevelt was president and did a lot of things to get the United States out of the Great Deperssion. He was re-elected in 1936 and in 1940. In 1945 Harry S. Truman was President of the United States, when the first atomic bomb was dropped on Hiroshima, and Nagasaki Japan. Although Albert Einstein helped build the bomb he sent a letter to the president begging him not to use it.
8. Heritage: My Great Nanu Carini served in the Italian Navy from 1930 to 1944 in Africa. My great Nanu LoCoco served in the Italian Army fro 1930 to 1945. On my Mom's side my two great Nanas both worked at home during the war in Italy. My Nanu was born in 1944 in Italy with his sisters who were born in 1940, 1942, and after the war. On my dad's side my Grandpa Zingale served in the American Army during the war, he was drafted in. His brothers and my Granma's brothers were also in the war.
